Talk about a great wet bar.
A resilient watering hole in suburban Los Angeles isn’t letting El Niño-fueled high tides stop the beer from flowing.
Project Barley Taps and Grill in Redondo Beach is making waves on social media over a video that shows the business is still very much up and running — despite the popular South Bay spot being seeped in seawater.
Redondo Beach is just one of the upscale Southern California coastal communities currently taking extra water on board, as widespread flooding sweeps the region.
A coastal flood warning from the National Weather Service is currently in effect for Orange and San Diego counties through 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties are currently under a coastal flood advisory, also expected to last until Thursday afternoon.
In a separate post, Project Barley revealed that flooding is a recurring problem for the area — and claimed that local government hasn’t done enough to address the ongoing issue.
“This has been happening for years, is going to get way worse, has been brought up in city council meetings, but nothing is being done except sand bags,” the post read.
“To make things worse we have been dropped by every insurance company even though we’ve never had a claim. We pay $20k a year in insurance and still keep getting dropped, we paid $1800k a year before all the insurance companies left California,” the business claimed.
“Please come support the businesses down in the boardwalk, be active in your city and make this a big deal. This is devastating for small businesses,” the post continued.
Project Barley owner Brent Reger encouraged people to stop by the bar, joking that a visit comes with a free salt scrub.
The business owner told KTLA that while the water had receded Tuesday morning, the floors of the business were “ruined.”
He said he’s been attempting to get City Council to replace a wood retaining wall on the opposite side of the boardwalk with a concrete wall, but officials in the heavily gentrified town insisted they don’t have the cash.
Project Barley also operates several sister businesses — including the neighboring Next Door bar on the Redondo Beach boardwalk, and Project Barley Brewery and Pizzeria in Lomita.
Officials warn that Southern California could soon get ever wetter, with “measurable” rainfall forecasted from Friday throughout Halloween weekend.
